Position Summary:
Responsible for the management of the system's accounts receivable to optimize reimbursement in a compliant fashion for services rendered by the multiple Carle hospital providers, Ambulatory Surgery Centers, Carle physician and advanced practice providers, Home Care, Hospice, DME, Home Infusion, Retail and Specialty Pharmacies. Scope of responsibility includes billing and follow-up, denials unit, system PFS customer service call center, system RAC management, system cash management, system charity care program and system self-pay and bad debt portfolio management. Serves as a change agent in a constantly changing and growing system and drives process and systems supporting the change and growth. Provides subject matter expertise related to the development of a compliant, comprehensive, professional patient financial services division. Is accountable for protecting the foundation's accounts receivable asset by ensuring that contemporary processes and systems are utilized that promote strong cash collections, minimizes bad debt and provides an excellent patient experience.

Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Related field

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 10 years of experience in a progressively responsible healthcare revenue cycle and/or patient financial services role in a hospital or system setting is required, of which five of those years are in an executive/Vice President position. OrA minimum of 10 years of experience in a progressively responsible healthcare revenue cycle and/or patient financial services role in a hospital or system setting is required, of which seven of those years are in a director level position.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc. Experience with EPIC Prelude, Cadence and Resolute for HB and PB. Must be highly organized; able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously; able to prioritize and re-prioritize on short notice; must have outstanding listening and written and oral communications skills; must be able to function well in a team centric culture; able to equally embrace and develop strategy as well as understand and work in the operational details; must have innate inquisitiveness with outstanding analytical skills; high EQ; exercises excellent judgement and has a strong operational focus; sound technical and presentation skills; ability to collaborate and work effectively with all levels in the organization including medical and non-medical staff; problem analysis and resolution skills at strategic and functional levels; ability to make necessary decisions and initiate and implement policies and procedures with a system focus.

Essential Functions:

  • Leads and directs the Patient Financial Services Division's activities through reporting Directors with guidance from the Senior VP/CRCO. Establishes operational goals, objectives and budgets. Responsibilities include the planning of optimal operating policies and procedures required to deliver quality services and enhance operational processes and workflows.
  • Designs and oversees an industry-leading operational model that ensures high physician and customer satisfaction, organizational efficiency, and strong financial performance while assuring accurate and complete billing, streamlined denial management functions and sound cash collections processes.
  • Monitors ongoing performance through the development, production and distribution of performance metrics. Facilitates performance improvement/process redesign as needed.
  • Oversees all contracted/outsourced services. Effectively negotiates contracted arrangements and manages performance from all vendors.
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with subordinates and superiors regarding the status and condition of the operations; raises issues/concerns timely and appropriately.
  • Communicates, collaborates, organizes, prioritizes, leads, facilitates, coaches and problem solves with reporting directors and peers to ensure that division and system goals, objectives and operational budgets are met.
