Position Summary:
The Medical Technologist is responsible for accurately performing specimen analysis of simple, moderate and highly complex testing, instrument maintenance and quality control. Other related duties may include specimen collection, specimen labeling and storing, and the use of automated and manual equipment for testing. Demonstrates and applies understanding of scientific theories and principles of laboratory results to clinical conditions.

Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Chemical, Physical or Biological Science. New grads must present diploma within 12 weeks of hire.
Will also consider candidates that have Associates in Medical Lab Technology. 
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP) within 1 year or Medical Laboratory Scientist (AMT) within 1 year or Medical Technologist (ASCP) within 1 year or Medical Technologist (AMT) within 1 year.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs testing in the clinical laboratory for use in the treatment and diagnosis of disease using standard techniques and equipment; perform related duties in laboratory to include storing and labeling specimens and using manual and automatic equipment to prepare specimens and perform analytical tests. Performs testing accurately, safely and within established time periods.
  • Performs calibrations and routine maintenance on laboratory equipment and instrumentation according to laboratory protocols.
  • Perform various Quality Control and Quality Assurance procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations and protocols. Evaluates acceptability as associated with department testing.
  • Communicates test results and information with internal and external customers as appropriate in an accurate, timely, effective and professional manner according to facility policies and procedures.
  • Recognize problems that require additional troubleshooting, perform troubleshooting or seek additional assistance as appropriate.
  • Successfully participates in all accreditation and other proficiency testing and annual performance competencies. After deemed competent in department, assists leadership with signing off other staff members annual competency.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume environment by focusing on multi-tasking and prioritizing workload.
  • Complete Continuing Education as required by Lab policy and to maintain certification if applicable.
  • Follows and maintains familiarity with laboratory and organizational policies and procedures. Reviews as required

  • Notifies Section Supervisor or Lead Tech of any calibration, quality control or equipment failures which cannot be immediately resolved. Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever the test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable level of performance. Ensure proper corrective action documentation.
  • Records, reports and monitors all patient data following proper validation, procedure and documentation.
  • Notifies appropriate laboratory staff when supplies are below established par levels.
  • Recognize test results and instrument function problems that require additional troubleshooting perform troubleshooting or seek additional assistance as appropriate.
  • Maintain a clean, stocked and safe department. Follows established laboratory safety procedures in accordance with all regulatory agencies.
  • Performs department and shift specific duties as assigned.
